The Best Actress

A Theatre Novel

When British actress, Nicole Bennett, wins an Oscar at the Academy Awards, she learns that her partner Michael back in London got married the day before to a girl Nicole knew nothing about. She had been busy filming in Los Angeles all that year. While Nicole is receiving the coveted Award, she is fighting back tears about her private life. The Academy audience believes they are tears of joy. To recover from her grief she flees to Italy to escape but then has to appear at the Cannes Film Festival with the film. It is a story of heartbreak and anguish, similar to that which Lynn Redgrave, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Emma Thompson and many others have experienced.

Nicole's story tells of her climb to stardom from her student days at drama school, her first job, working in the Royal National Theatre Company, a Broadway run, marriage and divorce. When her beloved Michael deserts her, her entire career is in jeopardy as she struggles to come to terms with the effect her career is having on her private life.

The trouble is, she wants both, but is that possible? A real page-turner, Sharland's novel leads you through a world of romance, fame, glamour, wealth and privilege, on a voyage of personal discovery.
